Textron adds avionics and ignition upgrades across Cessna piston range
Thursday, 16 April 2026
Expanded cockpit capability and updated ignition systems have improved safety features and reduced operating complexity across multiple high-wing aircraft.

Textron Aviation has introduced a package of enhancements across its Cessna piston aircraft lineup, covering the Skyhawk, Skylane, Turbo Skylane and Turbo Stationair HD.

The update centres on the Garmin G1000 NXi System Release 7 avionics upgrade alongside the rollout of the Lycoming dual electronic ignition system, now standard across all new Cessna piston aircraft. Aircraft with the upgrades are expected to enter service from late 2026 into early 2027.

New avionics functionality includes Garmin Smart Glide, designed to assist pilots during engine-out scenarios by automating key decision-making inputs, and Remote Wake, which enables avionics systems to be powered up externally for planning, updates and maintenance preparation.

“We continue to invest in innovations that support the long term success of our Cessna piston products,” says Lannie O’Bannion, senior vice president, Sales & Marketing at Textron Aviation. “Garmin System Release 7 and the dual electronic ignition system improvements provide pilots with advanced tools that simplify operations, improve situational awareness and deliver a more modern and intuitive flying experience.”

The dual EIS replaces legacy magneto-based systems, reducing mechanical complexity while extending maintenance intervals and lowering operating costs.

The changes bring incremental modernisation to the Cessna piston fleet, focusing on usability, reliability and operational efficiency.
