Airbus has completed the rollout of a multi-site supercomputing infrastructure delivered by Bull as part of a long-term high-performance computing partnership spanning France and Germany.
The programme includes supercomputers and modular data centres delivered in Toulouse during 2025 and Hamburg in 2026, with Bull saying the systems triple Airbus’ simulation capacity as engineering demand increases across the aerospace sector.
Airbus is using the environment for aerodynamic design, cabin and cockpit acoustics analysis and structural stress testing as it develops current and future aircraft programmes.
Bull says the infrastructure was supplied through an HPC-as-a-service model covering computing systems, storage and modular data centre delivery. The company pre-integrated the systems at its Angers facility before assembling them on site.
The system uses Bull’s Direct Liquid Cooling technology to improve energy efficiency and recover heat generated by the infrastructure for neighbouring buildings.
Bull engineers based in Germany also supported Airbus through simulation environment development and application optimisation work.
Martin Matzke, head of Central Europe and Northern Europe at Bull, says: “This long-term strategic and technological collaboration highlights the critical role of HPC in driving innovation and breakthrough programmes across the aerospace and manufacturing industries.”
Bruno Lecointe, head of HPC, AI and Quantum Computing at Bull, adds: “Our collaboration with Airbus to deliver a turnkey HPC solution is a cornerstone for Bull and our high-performance computing business. Being recognised as an HPC strategic partner by a global, world-renowned industry player is an honour for our teams.”
