Garmin launches G2000 PRIME avionics suite

Larger primary and secondary displays, faster processors and expanded multi-touch capability have been added to Garmin's latest integrated avionics platform.

Garmin has introduced G2000 PRIME, a premium integrated flight deck for high-performance Class I/II piston and electric aircraft. The system builds on technology first introduced in the G3000 PRIME flight deck, extending an all-touchscreen interface to a further category of aircraft.

The flight deck is built around 14-inch touchscreen primary display units with edge-to-edge glass, offering quadruple the memory and gigabit system connectivity up to 100 times faster than earlier Garmin systems. New multi-core processors more than double processing power, drawing on Garmin's experience certifying multi-core technology for civil and military applications since 2017.

The 7-inch secondary display units provide a 40% increase in screen area over previous Garmin touch controllers and can double as an integrated standby flight instrument in certain aircraft applications. The multi-touch interface recognises up to ten simultaneous inputs, allowing pilot and copilot to interact with the same display at once, with on-screen hand stabilisation supporting precise touchscreen inputs.

Phil Straub, Garmin executive vice president and managing director, aviation, says: “G2000 PRIME delivers on that demand with a premium flight deck experience designed to help simplify operations, enhance situational awareness and support advanced safety-enhancing technologies.”

Safety features include Autonomí, Garmin's family of autonomous safety technologies, along with Garmin Autoland, Smart Glide, Smart Rudder Bias, Electronic Stability Protection, Emergency Descent Mode and Garmin Autothrottle. Terminal safety tools such as Runway Occupancy Awareness, 3D SafeTaxi and Garmin SurfaceWatch analyse GPS and ADS-B data to alert crews to possible runway incursions. Connectivity options include Connext Satellite Services, LTE, SiriusXM, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, with Garmin's PlaneSync system automatically updating databases and allowing operators to remotely check fuel and systems status via the Garmin Pilot app.
