Thermal circuit breakers for aerospace applications use a bimetallic strip mechanism that deflects under sustained overcurrent conditions to trip a set of contacts, interrupting the protected circuit; they are specified to DO-160 environmental standards and are available in single- and multi-pole configurations with current ratings and trip curves suited to 28 V DC and 115 V AC aircraft electrical systems.
