Casting covers the production of near-net-shape metallic aerospace components by pouring or injecting molten alloys — typically aluminium, titanium, magnesium, nickel superalloys and steel — into shaped moulds, encompassing processes such as investment casting (lost-wax), sand casting, die casting, and directional solidification used for turbine blades and structural airframe parts.
