Gulfstream selects Universal Avionics' CVFDR with embedded RIPS and becomes first fixed wing OEM to comply with FAA Final Rule
Friday, 29 October 2010

Universal Avionics Systems Corporation's Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) with RIPS (Recorder Independent Power Supply) and Flight Data Recorder (FDR) have been selected by Gulfstream Aerospace, A General Dynamics Company, headquartered in Savannah, GA, as forward-fit equipment on Gulfstream's G450, G550 and G650 business jets. Universal Avionics' CVR with RIPS (CVR-120R) and the FDR (FDR-25R) will be standard on these aircraft.

Gulfstream will be the first Fixed Wing Original Equipment Manufacturer to announce compliance with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration Final Rule on CVR and Digital FDR, accomplished with Universal Avionics' CVR and FDR.

Universal Avionics recently introduced a new line of CVRs and digital FDRs which comply with the latest U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Final Rule mandating RIPS in forward-fit applications for certain aircraft. Recorder Independent Power Supply (RIPS) technology provides a backup power source in the event of a main power fail. Universal Avionics' CVFDR is the lightest CVR and digital FDR combination unit with an internal RIPS to achieve FAA and European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certification approvals.

Universal looks forward to entering another partnership with Gulfstream, originator of the world's most technologically advanced business-jet aircrafts for over 50 years. Gulfstream built the first airplane specifically intended for business use in the late 1950's, with the Gulfstream G650 being the most technologically advanced business aircraft in the sky today.

"We are very pleased to work with Gulfstream to supply this innovative voice and flight data recorder," remarks Robert Clare, Director North American Marketing for Universal Avionics. "We continue to employ progressive technology to present the most compact and lightest weight recorders to the aircraft industry."
