Aircelle reinforces its business jet sector leadership with the Silvercrest engine nacelles on Dassault's Falcon 5X
Friday, 25 October 2013

Aircelle (Safran) has complete design, production and integration responsibility for the nacelles on SilvercrestR jet engines produced by Snecma (Safran) to power Dassault Aviation's next-generation Falcon 5X.

The Falcon 5X's nacelles benefit from Aircelle's expertise in the business jet sector, contributing to the performance and operability of this new twin-engine aircraft - which was unveiled today at the 2013 NBAA convention in Las Vegas.

"This marks a new step in Aircelle's engine nacelle leadership position for business jets, and builds on our supply of nacelles and thrust reversers for the tri-jet Falcon 7X," said Aircelle Chairman and CEO Martin Sion.

Features of Falcon 5X nacelles include Aircelle's increased use of composite materials for lighter weight, the broader application of acoustic treatment for quieter operation, and a direct airflow design aft of the fan for improved fuel efficiency.

Aircelle's innovation also extends to the Falcon 5X nacelles' production. This process will apply the most modern tools and techniques - including robotic systems and automated assembly line - providing improved ergonomics from the production of composite components to the nacelle's integration.

The Falcon 5X nacelle is composed of the air inlet, inner and outer fan duct, fan cowl doors and the patented Aircelle PERTR thrust reverser. Aircelle's proven PERT design uses two blocker doors that serve as the engine's exhaust exit during flight, and which are deployed on landing for the reverse thrust function. This concept combines thrust reverser effectiveness with an optimized weight.
