PRESS RELEASE
Issued by: Collins Aerospace, Avionics Division
Rockwell Collins recently achieved the first certification of a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) Head Up Guidance System (HGS®) for business aircraft. The new system, the HGS-5860, will debut on the Dassault Falcon 7X.
"This certification reflects our strong track record of providing smart HGS solutions for Dassault aircraft," said John Desmond, vice president, Rockwell Collins HGS. "Our advanced LCD design brings significant enhancements to business aviation, including reduced power consumption and improved video capabilities for future growth features including Enhanced Vision and Synthetic Vision."
The addition of LCD projection technology to Rockwell Collins HGS offers improved brightness and image resolution for Enhanced and Synthetic Vision displays; a digital display interface that eases the integration of future flight deck technology; and capability to seamlessly integrate multiple image sources while maintaining a clear view of the primary flight symbology. It also allows for the future development of hybrid solutions that utilize the best feature of evolving imaging technologies.
The HGS displays inertial flight path information to the pilot that conforms to the outside world. This provides important energy management advantages that allow for optimal performance during approach and landing. Further, the inertial flight path information aids in wind shear situations, during engine failures, and in "black hole" approaches to airports with minimal navigation aids.
Previous models of Rockwell Collins' HGS have been certified on the Dassault Falcon 900DX, 900EX, 2000 and 2000EX.
