Hamilton Sundstrand preparing for A350XWB ground tests
Monday, 19 July 2010

Hamilton Sundstrand, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) , is preparing its Airbus A350XWB systems to support Airbus integration testing on the aircraft and its Rolls-Royce engine.

"Hamilton Sundstrand is proud of our company's long and successful partnership with Airbus, allowing us to play a significant role in the A350XWB's development," said Hamilton Sundstrand President Alain Bellemare.

Hamilton Sundstrand's Electric Systems business was selected by Airbus to provide the A350XWB's Ram Air Turbine and Electric Power Generation System -- comprising four 100 kVA, 230-volt variable frequency generators and four generator control units. The EPGS is undergoing testing at Hamilton Sundstrand's Rockford, Ill., facility with first shipsets being delivered to Airbus for integration and engine testing. Through ECE, a Zodiac company, Hamilton Sundstrand will also provide the solid state power controllers for the aircraft's electric power distribution system.

Hamilton Sundstrand's Ratier-Figeac unit, based in Figeac, France, will supply one pilot, and one co-pilot cockpit side stick controller per aircraft. Ratier-Figeac was also selected by Diehl to provide the cockpit flap control lever. The first units have been tested at Ratier-Figeac and delivered to Airbus.

Hamilton Sundstrand's Kidde Aerospace & Defense business was selected by Honeywell to provide the aircraft's bleed air overheat detection system. Through Honeywell, Hamilton Sundstrand's Nord-Micro business will provide the aircraft's ventilation control system including fans and humidification/dehumidification.

Additionally, Hamilton Sundstrand's Engine & Control Systems business has tested and delivered to Rolls-Royce the first pneumatic engine start system used for the initial engine run that took place June 17.
