Garmin earns applications for G3000's autothrottle
Wednesday, 18 October 2023
Garmin Autothrottles enhances the Citation M2 Gen2 and Embraer 300E's capabilities by optimising engine power, simplifying flight management and increasing overall operating efficiency.

Garmin Autothrottles will be available as an optional item for new Embraer Phenom 300E aircraft from the third quarter of 2024, while Textron's Cessna Citation M2 Gen2 will include the feature beginning in mid-2025, reducing pilot workload and improving the flying experience.

Garmin Autothrottles further enhances the Citation M2 Gen2's capabilities by optimising engine power, simplifying flight management and increasing overall operating efficiency. With this advanced technology, pilots can expect to experience smoother and more predictable flight profiles, providing them with even greater control and precision while flying.

"Adding Garmin Autothrottles into the Citation M2 Gen2 exemplifies Textron Aviation's ongoing commitment to product investment across our entire product lineup,” says Lannie O'Bannion, senior vice president, Sales and Flight Operations. “With its intelligent automation and streamlined operation, the integration of autothrottles in the aircraft provides pilots added precision and efficiency.”

Fully integrated with the Citation M2 Gen2's Garmin G3000 avionics system, Garmin Autothrottles streamlines operations from takeoff to landing by managing aircraft speed, engine performance and power to allow the aircraft to climb, descend or maintain altitude. It automatically manages engine thrust, optimising airspeed and fuel efficiency, and adjusts engine power based on factors like altitude, airspeed, and aircraft weight. By maintaining precise control over these parameters, it ensures a smoother and more comfortable flying experience for passengers. Additionally, Garmin Autothrottles includes features to prevent exceedance conditions and provides alerts to pilots if any deviations occur, enhancing overall peace of mind.

The optional feature is set to enhance the already single-pilot-friendly cockpit of the Phenom 300E, which includes the highly advanced Prodigy Touch based on Garmin G3000, in the third quarter of 2024. Embraer is also committed to supporting in-service aircraft via a service bulletin (SB) available from the fourth quarter of 2024, for aircraft that have received factory-incorporated provisions.

“We are excited to introduce autothrottle to the Phenom 300E's avionics suite. It is another example of Embraer's mindset of continued improvement, listening to customers feedback and elevating an industry-leading product even further. Innovations like this enhance the experience and deliver even more value to operators. And that is why an aircraft like the Phenom 300E continues to offer the ultimate experience in its category,” says Michael Amalfitano, President and CEO of Embraer Executive Jets.
