Robinson Helicopter Company has introduced its first all-new aircraft in nearly 15 years, the R88, at VERTICON 2025 in Dallas, Texas. The single-engine utility helicopter offers increased capacity and adaptability for missions including firefighting, air medical transport and utility work. Designed for versatility, the R88 accommodates up to 10 occupants, features a flat-floor cabin and offers multiple seating and cargo configurations.
David Smith, President and CEO of Robinson Helicopter Company, says: “With the unveiling of the R88, we expect to disrupt the single-engine helicopter market, offering superior performance and capabilities at a competitive price.”
Robinson has selected the Safran Arriel 2W engine to power the R88. Producing 950 shaft horsepower, the engine features advanced digital services and an optimised maintenance schedule. Customers will benefit from the Serenity package, which includes five years or 2,000 hours of unscheduled maintenance, premium health monitoring and streamlined MRO services.
Cédric Goubet, CEO of Safran Helicopter Engines, says: “With the Arriel 2W, the new R88 helicopter obtains the best propulsion solution in its power range. We are confident that the R88 will achieve great success in the light, single-engine helicopter market.”
The R88 features Garmin avionics, including G500H TXi displays, GTN navigators and a 4-axis autopilot with hover assist and level mode. The helicopter also incorporates dual hydraulics, a health usage monitoring system and an impact-resistant windshield. Standard skids or optional high skids provide compatibility with additional firefighting and utility equipment.
With a range exceeding 350 nautical miles and an endurance of over 3.5 hours, the R88 is designed to meet a variety of operational needs. The aircraft is priced from $3.3 million and deposits will be accepted from authorised dealers starting 11 March 2025.
