Sikorsky has confirmed it is pursuing a Next Generation Rotorcraft (NGRC) production line in Europe, as it looks to deepen its partnership with NATO and expand collaborative research and development on the continent.

The company is engaged in studies covering advanced airframe configurations, open architecture avionics systems and mission capabilities intended to meet NATO's evolving deterrence requirements. Sikorsky plans to partner with European aerospace firms and suppliers to establish a locally sourced NGRC production line, with the aim of supporting technology transfer, job creation and sustainment capability across the region.

In parallel, the company is developing an international X2 variant for Asian markets through a joint programme with industry partners there, an effort the company says draws on global expertise to deliver an adaptable next-generation rotorcraft platform.

Local production supports a highly skilled regional workforce, reinforces Europe's defence industrial base and enhances NATO readiness.”

The NGRC programme began in 2022 and currently includes France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Canada, with the United States and Spain acting as observers. NATO is seeking a medium-class, multi-role rotorcraft to replace helicopters currently in service, with NSPA leading the requirement through its dedicated NGRC Support Partnership.
