Chemical milling masks are chemically resistant coatings and sheet materials—typically neoprene, polyvinyl chloride, or synthetic elastomers—applied to metallic aerospace structures to define and protect areas not subject to controlled chemical etching during the chem-mill process, with maskant formulations selected according to etchant compatibility, scribing characteristics, and qualification to aerospace process specifications such as AMS standards.
