Filament winding is a composite fabrication process in which continuous reinforcement fibres — typically carbon, glass or aramid — are impregnated with thermoset resin and wound onto a mandrel in precisely controlled helical, hoop or polar patterns to produce structural aerospace components such as pressure vessels, rocket motor casings, ducting and drive shafts, with CNC-controlled winding machines governing fibre tension, placement angle and layer sequence to achieve defined laminate properties.
