PRESS RELEASE
Issued by: Safran Aircraft Engines Gennevillier
Safran Aircraft Engines will expand its forging capabilities with the acquisition of a 30,000-ton hydraulic press for manufacturing strategic components for civil and military aircraft engines. This project represents an investment of €150 million, will create 130 jobs starting in 2026, and will be operational by 2029.
This new investment will support the growth of the site's activities, which will see its production nearly double by 2035 across all engine families. It will support the ramp-up of production of CFM International's LEAP engine—which powers the majority of new-generation single-aisle aircraft such as the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX families—military engines (for the Rafale, Mirage, and A400M), and high-power engines from GE Aerospace, with which Safran Aircraft Engines is a partner (such as the GE90 for the Boeing 777). CFM International is a 50-50 joint venture between Safran Aircraft Engines and GE Aerospace.
The new press will produce 14,000 parts per year at full capacity. It will also enable the production of large components for future civil aircraft engine programs that will require a high-tonnage press. This equipment will incorporate cutting-edge technologies such as sensors and connected systems to precisely monitor the entire process and will reduce the forging process's noise footprint.
"We are proud to announce this major investment to support the strong growth of our civil and military activities," emphasizes Stéphane Cueille, President of Safran Aircraft Engines. “This project reinforces our unique expertise in forging processes and contributes to our industrial and technological sovereignty. It complements recent investments made in Rennes and Le Creusot to develop our supply chain in France and guarantee our resilience, particularly for military engine parts.”
With over 120 years of expertise, the Gennevilliers site occupies a central position within Safran Aircraft Engines’ industrial ecosystem thanks to its mastery of forging, casting, and machining. This expertise gives Safran Aircraft Engines the status of the only aircraft engine manufacturer in the world with complete forging capabilities, thus reinforcing its industrial excellence.
