Friday, 14 March 2014

Fokker Elmo, part of Fokker Technologies, has signed a contract with Snecma (Safran) valued at 60 Million US$ for the delivery of Engine Build-up Units (EBU) electrical harnesses for the LEAP engine, a product of CFM International, a 50/50 joint company between Snecma (Safran) and GE.

The LEAP engine was selected by Airbus for its A320 Neo, by Boeing as the exclusive power plant on the 737 MAX and COMAC for the C919 aircraft models.

To date, several thousands of orders have been placed for Leap engines. For Fokker Elmo the production activities will be related to several LEAP engine variants and work will start immediately in Hoogerheide, the Netherlands, in close collaboration with Snecma.

Fokker Elmo President Mr. Tim Hayter stated: “This contract is the result of Safran's strong involvement in the Smart Vest program which opened doors for Fokker allowing us to demonstrate Fokker's high level of specialization in electrical wiring and interconnection systems for aircraft and aircraft engines. We are delighted to welcome Snecma as a customer and we are proud to contribute to the advanced and prestigious LEAP propulsion program. This significant contract will promote further cooperation between Fokker Technologies and the Safran Group”.

Snecma Purchasing Director Mr Etienne Galan stated: 'Safran here shows its willingness to enhance cooperation with the The Netherlands and in particular Dutch industry, supporting its subsidiary Sagem to realize industrial participation in the Smart Vest Program. We are very pleased to bring on board Fokker and look forward to explore further opportunities in other area's working with Fokker Technologies and the Dutch industry. This 60 Million US$ contract is leading the Safran drive to further strengthen the industrial cooperation with the Dutch industry in general and for the advanced soldier modernization system Smart Vest in particular”.
