Reciprocating internal combustion engines in which pistons driven within cylinders convert combustion pressure into rotary crankshaft output, with cylinder arrangements including horizontally opposed, in-line, V-type and radial configurations; typically air-cooled and certificated to run on Avgas, these engines encompass components such as carburettors or fuel-injection systems, magneto ignition, FADEC-compatible variants, and associated accessory drives.
