Roller screws are high-load linear-motion conversion devices in which a central threaded shaft engages multiple planetary threaded rollers arranged within a surrounding nut, distributing load across a large contact area to achieve greater load capacity and stiffness than conventional ball-screw mechanisms; manufactured from high-alloy steels with precision thread-grinding and surface treatments such as case hardening or PVD coating, they are used in flight-control actuators, landing-gear systems, and electromechanical actuators (EMAs) where precise, backlash-free motion under high cyclic loading is required.
