Cotter pins are split, semi-circular locking devices manufactured to AN, MS and NAS standards from corrosion-resistant steel, titanium or aluminium alloy, used to secure castellated and slotted nuts, clevis assemblies and other pinned joints against rotation or withdrawal, with installation typically requiring cold-working of the tines through a drilled fastener shank or castle nut slot.
