Capped nuts are internally threaded fasteners incorporating an integral closed dome or cap at one end, used in aerospace assemblies to protect exposed bolt or stud threads from corrosion, fluid ingress and foreign object damage whilst providing a smooth, snag-free external profile; manufactured to standards such as MS and NAS specifications in materials including titanium alloys, A286 corrosion-resistant steel and aluminium, with finishes such as cadmium plating or anodising applied to meet MIL-SPEC requirements.
