Explosive bolts are single-use, pyrotechnic separation fasteners that provide structural integrity during normal operation and then fracture or release on command via an electrically initiated initiator or squib, enabling stage separation, payload release, and emergency jettison functions in launch vehicles, missiles, and aircraft ejection systems; they are manufactured to MIL-SPEC and ESCC standards from high-strength steel or titanium alloy, with precisely controlled notch geometries to direct fracture energy and minimise debris.
