Self-retaining bolts are aerospace fasteners engineered with an integrated captive mechanism — typically a swaged collar, crimped washer, or retaining feature — that prevents the bolt from being fully withdrawn from its host assembly during maintenance, reducing FOD risk in accordance with AS9100 quality requirements; manufactured from titanium alloys, corrosion-resistant steel (CRES), and high-strength aluminium to meet NAS and MIL-SPEC dimensional standards.
