Whole aircraft parachutes are ballistic-deployment or rocket-extracted canopy recovery systems designed to arrest the descent of an entire airframe under emergency conditions, covering the parachute assembly, mortar or pyrotechnic deployment mechanisms, harness and airframe attachment structures, and the high-strength woven nylon or aramid canopy materials engineered to withstand the aerodynamic loads of full-aircraft extraction.
