Astronautics nFDIMU becomes line-fit choice for A321XLR
Thursday, 26 June 2025
The company's flight data system gained certification for use on A318 through A321XLR and entered A321XLR service in late 2024.

Astronautics Corporation of America’s next generation flight data interface management unit, the nFDIMU, is the line-fit solution for the Airbus A321XLR and a selectable catalogue option for A320neo family aircraft. From 2026, it is scheduled to become line-fit across the A320neo family.

The nFDIMU combines hardware and software to compile, record and process data for improved aircraft operations and maintenance optimisation. It handles real-time data from more than 60 aircraft systems, forwarding information to the flight data recorder and condition monitoring system.

Its partitioned operating system separates avionics from open-world domains to increase cybersecurity. The system has 50 times more processing power than previous versions, with less weight and more storage.

A key feature is its compatibility with both XLR and neo aircraft, which allows standardisation for mixed fleets. Astronautics has also developed the web-based GEPART tool, managed and distributed by Airbus Digital Services, to let airlines monitor and customise data reports.

“Airlines flying with Astronautics’ nFDIMU will experience performance benefits from its new design that will translate into cost savings by avoiding unscheduled maintenance and enhancing aircraft operations,” says Astronautics president Robert Atac. “Our Astronautics customer support teams, together with Airbus teams, are ready to help these airlines enter service with this new solution.”

The nFDIMU was certified by EASA for the A318, A319, A320, A320neo and A321XLR. Astronautics has supported Airbus for two decades, also supplying network servers for the A400M and connectivity systems for the H125, H130, H145 and H160.
