Cowl flaps are controllable apertures located in engine nacelle cowlings that regulate cooling airflow over and around piston or turbine powerplants; they encompass the actuating flap panels themselves, hinge assemblies, push-pull or cable-driven actuation linkages, and associated seals, typically fabricated from aluminium alloy or composite sheet with corrosion-resistant coatings.
