Flight directors are cockpit instruments that compute and display pitch-and-roll command bars on an attitude indicator face, synthesising inputs from inertial reference units, navigation receivers and air data to guide the pilot or autopilot along a calculated flight path; their manufacture involves ARINC 429/664 data-bus integration, LCD or EFIS-compatible display processing, and flight-management algorithm implementation in DO-178C-certified avionics software.
